Virtual REVIVE! Training - June 18th, 2024 - 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm - VIRTUAL

REVIVE! is the Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education (OONE) program for the Commonwealth of Virginia. REVIVE! provides training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency using naloxone.

Since 2013, fatal drug overdose has been the leading method of unnatural death in Virginia, surpassing all other forms of unnatural death including homicide, suicide, motor vehicles accidents, and undetermined deaths. Opioids have been the driving force behind the large increases in fatal overdoses since 2013. In 2019, there were 1,289 deaths from all-opioids which includes all versions of fentanyl, heroin, prescription opioids and U-47700 (an illicitly manufactured synthetic opioid). (OCME Quarterly Report)

Naloxone is a prescription medicine that reverses opioid overdoses. It works by temporarily blocking the effects of opioids and helps the person to breathe again. Naloxone is the generic name but can be found under the branded name of Narcan.

This event is being brought to you by Triumph Over Trauma: Northern Shenandoah Valley Resilience Initiative and Laurel Ridge Community College. The focus of the event is to bring trauma-responsive education and awareness to the community, with an emphasis on building resilience and turning trauma into triumph! This is an all-day event with registration and a light breakfast starting at 8, opening comments at 9:00 and lasting until 4:00. Our Keynote Speaker is Dr. Adam Starks, author of "Broken Child Mended Man." As a product of the foster care system who broke the cycle, he works to "empowers audiences to uplift at-promise youth by tapping into community resources to convert youth potential into positive outcomes." In addition to our keynote speaker, there will be sessions and activities throughout the day brought to us by a number of engaging speakers.

Registration, breakfast and lunch are FREE thanks to grant funding received by Triumph Over Trauma and our partnership with Laurel Ridge Community College. Each participant will also receive a FREE copy of Dr. Starks autobiography "Broken Child, Mended Man." Dr Starks will be signing books at the summit.

The event location will be the Carl and Emily Conference Center of the Corron Building at the Middletown Laurel Ridge Community College Campus (173 Skirmisher Lane, Middletown VA 22645).
